Family/Caregiver Learning Night: Anti-Bias
Please join us at COLUMBIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL on THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 21st from 5-6:30pm to learn more about what our staff and students are learning around how we interrupt harm. Pizza and childcare will be provided by our CPA. This learning will be led by Dr. Janis Velasquez Farmer.
Bias and Hate: Interrupting Harm, part I (75 mins)
This interactive workshop addresses the critical issues of interrupting bias and hate, extended with an introduction to socialization and liberatory practices in school environments. Participants will gain practical tools and strategies to recognize and interrupt harmful behaviors in classrooms, hallways, and other school settings. Through discussions, activities, and real-world scenarios, this session equips educators to foster inclusive environments and promote positive social change within their school communities.
Outcomes: Participants will
Increase understanding of how bias and hate manifest in school settings and the impact they have on individuals and the school community.
Gain effective strategies and tools to interrupt and address bias and hate when they occur—every comment, every time, in the moment, without exception.
Engage and actively contribute to a positive school culture.

Back-to-school Potluck
Join us for an all-school potluck on the Columbia playground! Bring a blanket and a dish to share (please label with allergen information). The CPA will provide plates and utensils. We are excited to kick off the school year!
Kindergarten Playdate
Meet incoming kindergartners on the playground for popsicles and a playdate!
Field Day
Ms. Webster has come up with a fun day of events to celebrate the end of the school year. Popsicles provided by the CPA.
5th Grade Celebration
A fun celebration at Elizabeth Park for our Cohos + families who are heading off to middle school next year! Tacos from Mi Rancho and treats provided by the CPA.
There will be a color chalk throwing so please make sure your 5th grader wears clothes than can get stained.
End of School Year Dance
Join us as we blast off through space for a stellar dance party!
We’ll have pizza, hot dogs, Kona Ice, a photo booth and space jams provided by Columbia’s own DJ Jeff Jacobs!
Dance decoration art project
Join us to help paint and make decorations that will be displayed at our intergalactic dance Friday June 7th!
CPA Garage Sale
We’ve been doing some spring cleaning and have a ton of old Coho gear, books and miscellaneous items that are looking for new homes!

K-1 Caregiver Learning Session
K-1 FAMILY/CAREGIVER LEARNING ON PROBLEM SOLVING (RESCHEDULED!)
We have rescheduled this event. Please join Principal Nguyen on Friday, May 24th for about 30-40 minutes from 8-8:40am in the library. This is a chance to learn how we support students with problem-solving at Columbia. We recognize that it is the job of children to make mistakes AND, to be able to learn, grow, reflect and repair when mistakes are made. This learning opportunity will help you understand our approaches and help us work together. Looking forward to the connection.
General Meeting
Join us for a night with guest speaker Ann Marie Read as she shares tools and tips for teaching our kids grit and perseverance while helping to instill and build their confidence.
